Automotive technicians need to be constantly learning new skills in order to keep up with the latest technologies. However, sending technicians to training can be expensive and time-consuming. So, how can you ensure that your technicians are getting the most out of their training?

Here are a few tips:

  • Make sure the training is relevant to the technicians' needs. What are the specific skills that your technicians need to learn? Tailor the training to their specific needs.

  • Use a variety of teaching methods. Don't just lecture at your technicians. Use a variety of teaching methods, such as hands-on exercises, group discussions, and case studies. This will help keep your technicians engaged and learning.

  • Make the training fun. Learning should be enjoyable. Use games, puzzles, and other activities to make the training more fun and engaging.

  • Provide opportunities for practice. After your technicians have learned the new skills, give them opportunities to practice them. This will help them solidify their knowledge and skills.

  • Give feedback. Let your technicians know how they are doing. This will help them identify areas where they need to improve.

  • Celebrate successes. When your technicians learn new skills, celebrate their successes. This will motivate them to continue learning.

By following these tips, you can help ensure that your auto technicians are getting the most out of their training.

In the below video, I discuss how I make auto technician training worthwhile by using a variety of teaching methods and activities. I also emphasise the importance of keeping the training engaging and fun.

Here are some additional tips from the video:

  • Use a well-written, well-structured training manual with a clear, logically laid out table of contents.

  • Add videos, animations, and not too much text to your PowerPoint presentations.

  • Use a combination of pre-course e-learning, and revision quizzes during the course.

  • Use an online platform like KAHOOTS for in-class quizzes.

  • Give technicians written task sheets and pair them up for the practical activities.

  • Check technicians' answers after each activity and provide coaching if needed.

  • Use the same questions as in the KAHOOTS for the final test and give technicians two chances at passing.

By following these tips, you can create a training program that is both effective and engaging. Your technicians will be more likely to learn and retain the information, which will benefit your business in the long run.

I hope this helps!
